Breast Lift Perth

Breast lift

For individuals experiencing breast ptosis (droop), a mastopexy or breast lift is a procedure that reshapes and repositions breast tissue to address changes in contour and position.

“A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure used to reshape and reposition breast tissue in individuals who experience breast ptosis, often due to ageing, weight fluctuation or pregnancy-related changes.”

Breast lift types

There are three main types of breast lift procedures, and each is selected based on the degree of breast ptosis and the individual’s anatomy:

  • Periareolar breast lift: Typically considered for mild ptosis. This approach involves an incision around the edge of the areola and removal of skin from the central breast. The scar is confined to the areolar border.
  • Vertical breast lift: Often used for moderate ptosis. This method includes an incision around the areola and a vertical incision extending to the breast fold. The resulting scar is commonly referred to as a “lollipop” pattern.
  • Anchor breast lift: Generally recommended for more significant ptosis. It involves three incisions: around the areola, vertically to the breast fold, and along the breast fold itself. This is also known as a WISE pattern mastopexy and is commonly used due to its ability to address significant tissue descent and provide reshaping.

Breast lift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and typically involves an overnight hospital stay. On the day of surgery, you will meet your surgeon for pre-operative marking and a final review with the nursing team. Pre-operative markings are an essential part of planning to guide tissue positioning and aim for symmetry. Absorbable sutures are used, and waterproof dressings are applied. A post-operative garment will be provided at the time of surgery. Drains are not routinely required following breast lift procedures.

After surgery, you will recover initially in the recovery unit before being transferred to your room. Discharge usually occurs the following day, based on your recovery and the planned surgical pathway.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing on the day of surgery and bring your post-operative garment. You will need someone to drive you home and remain with you for the first 24 hours following discharge.

The recovery period following a breast lift is generally similar to that of breast augmentation, with many individuals recovering over a six-week period. However, recovery timelines vary.

Discomfort is common in the early days and is usually managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain relief. Within a week, most patients can return to light desk-based tasks and gentle activity, though strenuous movement and chest exercises should be avoided.

If your occupation involves heavy lifting, taking at least three weeks off is often recommended to support safe recovery. By the second week, many individuals report improved comfort and can resume more routine activities—still avoiding high-impact or strength-based exercise.

At Forme Specialist Plastic Surgery, breast augmentation and breast lift procedures are often performed together. This combined approach, known as augmentation-mastopexy, involves repositioning the nipple and removing excess skin while using implants to restore volume.

This procedure may be considered for individuals with breast ptosis and volume loss, particularly following pregnancy or significant weight loss. Augmentation-mastopexy addresses both concerns within a single operation and is planned according to individual goals and anatomy.

Breast Reduction Perth

Breast reduction

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess breast tissue and skin to reduce breast volume. It may be recommended for individuals experiencing symptoms such as neck, shoulder or back pain, skin irritation, or restricted movement due to breast size.
“Breast reduction is a commonly performed procedure at Forme Specialist Plastic Surgery and is offered to individuals experiencing physical symptoms related to breast size.”

How to best prepare for breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and typically involves an overnight hospital stay. On the day of your procedure, please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring any medications you are currently taking, along with your post-operative garment. Ensure that you have arranged for someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours following discharge.

In Australia, breast reduction surgery can be covered by Medicare under certain conditions, typically when it’s deemed medically necessary rather than purely cosmetic.

To qualify for Medicare coverage, the procedure usually needs to address specific health issues caused by the size of the breasts, such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder grooving from bra straps, skin irritation under the breasts, and other related physical symptoms.
